Receive your rates notice by email

Property owners and their authorised agent or legal representative can now register an email address and 'Opt In' to receive Rates Notices electronically and receive reminder messages via SMS. SMS reminders will be introduced in the future, but you can “Opt In” now.

With the increased cost of postage and longer delivery times, electronic delivery will be quicker, more convenient, cost effective and better for the environment. By opting in for electronic delivery of information:

  • You will receive your Rates Notices as a link to an Adobe PDF sent to your nominated email address.
  • You will no longer receive a physical copy by regular post.

Opt-In

  • Fill in the online form below.
  • You will receive a confirmation email to verify your email address. You will need to follow the link in the email to complete your registration.
  • At this point in time you will need to fill out this form for each property that is owned in the Derwent Valley Council area.

If this information is not provided, we may not be able to deal with this request. You may access and/or amend your personal information at any time. Terms and Conditions

Please note that all correspondence other than Rates or Reminder notices will continue to be sent by post, so it is important to notify Council of any changes to your address.

  1. Council will no longer mail paper Rates Annual and Instalment notices to you, or any person to whom paper notices for the nominated property were previously sent.
  2. All future Rates Annual and Instalment notices will be in the form of a PDF attachment to an email sent to the address nominated by you.
  3. You must advise any other person to whom the paper Rates Annual and Instalment notices are currently being sent, that they will no longer receive in paper form, as a result of your request. Council will not be responsible for providing this notification.
  4. You must check your nominated email address for notices sent by Council.
  5. You agree that you are deemed to have received the email when it reaches your internet service provider, whether or not you have opened or read the email.
  6. You agree that you will retain the Rates Annual and Instalment notice information yourself electronically or by printing it. Council will not issue paper notices that have been emailed.
  7. You can withdraw your request for email delivery of Rates Annual and Instalment notices at any time by deregistering on Council’s website.
  8. You are responsible for keeping your email address up to date with Council. If you change your email address, you must deregister and reregister with your new details.
  9. The delivery of Rates Annual and Instalment notices via email will be cancelled if any owner of the nominated property, or their authorised agent/legal representative requests cancellation.
  10. Upon withdrawal or cancellation of the email delivery service, Council will commence sending paper Rates Annual and Instalment notices to the last advised mailing address for that property.
  11. If Council receives a ‘bounce-back’ notification from your email address, a paper Rates Annual and Instalment notice will be sent to your last advised mailing address for the property. If two or more consecutive ‘bounce-backs’ occur, Council may cancel the request for email delivery of Rates Annual and Instalment notices for that property. An ‘out of office’ notification will not be considered a ‘bounce-back’ notification.
  12. In the event that debt recovery is required on rates accounts, these notices will be posted to the last recorded mailing address for that property.

Using an ‘out of office’ or similar notification for change of email address will not be deemed sufficient to have advised Council, for a change of email address as Rates Annual and Instalment notices are sent from a mailing house and not directly from Council.

PLEASE NOTE: by registering to receive notices by email, this will only apply to all future notices.
